Today, as a result of agencies facing lawsuits and rapidly declining
business, the agencies are raising comp card prices and trying to
charge models with exorbitant fees for their services. Now, I have
worked with some good agencies that protect and look after the interests
of their models, but most agencies don't educate their models. They
don't teach their models how to eat or how to be healthy. Recently,
a model friend of mine in New York told me how the head of one of
the largest agencies actually told her to start throwing up. Don't
get me wrong. Not all agencies are negative and I have worked with
several positive ones. They are out there. The problem arises when
people believe that they must do what an agency or photographer
says to do or they will "never work in this industry again."
Anyone who says words to that effect is lying.
